The Internet Explorer 7 Tax

by jscariati

This is a simultaneously hilarious and yet genius idea: Kogan, an Australian discount electronics vendor, has implemented an Internet Explorer 7 “tax” in their online store. Customers who go to checkout an item using IE7 will see a 6.8% tax added to their order, on the grounds that these users should pay extra to help cover the increased development costs of supporting the browser.

Avoiding the tax is simple: just use a different browser!

Now, just imagine if Amazon and other major online stores adopted the same approach – I’d bet usage of old IE versions would drop off a cliff.
